Let me ask a simple question. Does this child offend you?
Does he distract you in any way at all?
I look at this picture and I see an adorable little boy. But the school administrator of a Cleveland charter school found the little boy's mohawk disruptive to other students. In fact, after sending letters home, telling the boy's mother that the hairstyle had to be changed, the boy was sent home from school. Denied an education over his hair.
OVER HIS HAIR!!
What the hell? I mean really, what the hell? My kids have been put in classes with children that are disruptive behaviorally, they've dealt with bullies, and my middle schooler goes to school with young girls that wear mini skirts and low rise jeans. But that's okay. On the other hand a mohawk is disruptive??
It's kindergarten people. My little boy goes to school with fake tattoos on all the time and if he was sent home because of it, I would be FURIOUS. It just makes him happy, so big deal. Kids are pretty easy to please, it's the adults out there that aren't.
By the way, this story was brought to my attention by my friend, Sandra. It's a story close to her heart. Here's a pic of her little boy. He'll be going to school one day too, and in no way should this little sweetie have to change his hair either!

THAT is ridiculous! I completely agree with you on this!
I too agree wholeheartedly with you. Haircut or hairstyle is no cause for dismissal. Can't imagine what kind of school this poor child is going to but I hope the mother has the benefit of another school choice. Talk about utter ridiculousness.
