"But I was just kidding!"

Grrrrrrrrr………That was me growling as I read my June 4th edition of People magazine. You see, I ran across this story about ANOTHER Bride from hell. What is up with these women? They think just because THEY are the bride, they are given a bitch pass. I’m talking about Katie Masters, 27, who is getting married in September. She sent out the following “contract” to all of her bridesmaids.

Hello my beautiful bridesmaids! Let me just say again how happy I am that you are going to be a part of my special day! Below are just a few guidelines for the wedding that I’d like you to review, please initial by each point, sign at the end and send back to me. Just want to make sure they’re aren’t any surprises! The planning bride is a happy bride!
Thanks a bunch! Love ya!-[Signature]
______ My hair will remain at the length it is now or longer.
______ I will not change my hair color without first consulting Katie and providing a sample photo or hair swatch for consideration.
______ I will use Sally Hansen’s “Maximum Growth-Daily Nail Growth program” every day for the 4 months before the wedding day.
______ I will not gain more than 4lbs from the weight I was when I was asked to be a bridesmaid.
______ I swear to attend all showers, (lingerie, bridal & bachelorette) to arrive in a timely manner and do everything in my power to support and “be there” for the bride.
______ I will purchase the David’s Bridal style # 81123 dress below in Latte/Champagne within 3 weeks of today.
______ I will NOT knowingly get pregnant without notifying Katie at least 4 months prior to the wedding so a suitable alternate can be found. I will also give my purchased bridesmaid dress to said alternate. I do hereby swear that I will adhere to all of the above & other understood bridesmaid duties for the wedding on September 21, 2007
X_________________________(sign, print and date)

Needless to say, her bridesmaids were not too pleased to receive this. A lot of women would have stepped down from the “honor”, but these women were smarter. They passed it on to friends, who passed it on to friends, who passed it on………..you get the picture. It circulated all over the internet.
Katie Masters defense was, “I thought everyone would think it was a joke! I thought it was hysterical.” Sure she did. I think she meant every demanding word, but when she got called on being a bitchy bride, she cowered behind the “But I was just kidding!” facade. Her soon to be husband should be afraid. Very afraid.

i don't have any problem leaving my name. i called people who still believe the contract wasn't a joke after they're told it was a joke "stupid." i'd hardly call that hateful. you on the other hand, called my friend a bitch and a liar. i'd hope you have friends who care about you enough to get fired up if a stranger trashes you on her blog! as far as your new blog about people having a right to express their opinions, of course they do. but this isn't a question of "opinion" or not. there are FACTS to the story that you are simply ignoring. i was sitting next to katie when she found the contract on the internet, we laughed about how funny it was, she changed it to all her info and sent it out to her bridesmaids, and we both truly thought it was hilarious. facts. we laughed about it with her sister and maid of honor allison about a HALF HOUR after katie sent it. fact. it wasn't until WEEKS later that she found out it had gone all over the internet. fact. it wasn't at all like your version that she realized she was a bitchy bride and "cowered" behind the excuse that it was a joke. you're right that opinions aren't right or wrong, but facts are. an opinion would be to say that you didn't think the joke was funny. fine, that's an opinion. but to say it wasn't a joke is just not true!!

Thanks for the comment, Shana. Yours wasn't hateful at all, so I will leave it up. I believe that what you've written should have been included in the article in People Magazine & also in everything else I researched online before I posted. I don't blog about ANYTHING before I research it.

My new blog about being free to express opinions had nothing to do with Katie or her family. It was about other subjects, but mainly about the ending to the Sopranos.
